There's a rule in horror of "not showing the monster" from Alien to Jaws and even going as far back as Godzilla (1954). I, instead, passed the reigns to a friend and I would sit (un)comfortable beside him, crack a joke from time to time to break the tension and tried to control the horror crawling up my throat. And I sure as shit never made it past one (horrific) night in the hideout. I never scavenged for useful items nor did I fight any of the monsters lurking in the shadows. But never stood there and took control of the character as he explores the woods. Each step is in the right direction but putting you in harms ways. This game deals in vague tones only giving snippets of information that are both confusing and exciting, each piece of lore can rise up as many questions as it answers if not more so. A plague is going around and a Doctor is out to get you. You make your way, fight and survive your way through a (slightly) randomly generated forest full of mutated creatures and crazed up survivors. From a top down perspective in a hand drawn world, you get control of The Stranger who's searching a way out from this Polish woods that seemingly grew up over night where there used to be no woods.
